About Us

We Are

Prairie Hills Covenant Church, a congregation of the Evangelical Covenant Church,

was planted in 1948 as First Covenant Church, Sioux Falls. Our founding members

were excited about the mission potential opened by the city’s post-war growth,

and especially enjoyed Bible study, singing together and fellowship. As the Sioux

Falls community grew in size and diversity, so did the congregation, relocating

and expanding both facilities and ministries. By extending help and hospitality

to newcomers—those new to the Covenant Church, to Sioux Falls, to the United

States—we grew into a church family including members from a wide range of

backgrounds, where “world mission” has a local face.

Values of our congregation include accepting people as Christ accepts us, showing

God’s love in practical ways, biblical teaching and preaching, praying for each other,

being a teaching church that forms future church leaders, and a sending church that

equips members for mission. Most of all, we seek a flexible, servant attitude that sets

personal preferences aside and is willing to be “inconvenienced for the sake of the

Gospel” so that more people can encounter the reality of Jesus Christ and His love

for them.
